| Usability Architect
— infoSAGE (April - Dec. 1995)
Contacted by IBM to provide usability services for this next-generation
global news and information service delivered worldwide by Internet and
e-mail. Users set up a personal profile that scans 500 to (eventually)
2,000 news sources worldwide to receive two condensed news briefings per
day. Services included fast-turnaround studies that assisted with accelerated
design and development:
- High-level user and task analysis
- A customized set of usability processes and methods
- Six qualitative usability tests during the core
seven months of design and development
- Testing at both IBM and users’ sites (such
as at the corporate headquarters of Mobil, D&B, etc.).
Results include improved users’ abilities and performance, and
integrating user performance into design and development. Though launched
successfully, this service was terminated by IBM after about a year of
operation, due to strong pressure from major IBM media customers that
IBM not compete with them in the information services business.
